Is a leather interior worth it for a dog owner?

I'm looking at buying a 2008 Subaru Outback 2.5i and am struggling with the decision on whether to get the Limited package with leather interior, moonroof and VDC. Are these upgrades worth the extra cash? Would it be worth an extra $1K to just get leather? We have four hairy dogs.

Leather seats definitely make life easier when your hairy pets are frequently in and out of the car. Cars.com reviewer David Thomas explains:

"I actually bought a 2.5i Outback myself in July and got the base model. I have one dog, a boxer, and her hair gets stuck in the seats just like in every other cloth car she's been in. Leather is actually much better for dog hair. You can just vacuum it right up.

“I would definitely opt for the leather, but it and the other added features are really personal decisions on what you think is worth the price."

Just to give you a heads up so you’re not surprised at the dealership, the Limited package is actually $2,800 and is only available with an automatic transmission, which is another $1,000. As you mention, it includes leather-trimmed seating and a moonroof, along with dual-zone climate control and a six-disc CD changer. An electronic stability system — Subaru calls its version Vehicle Dynamics Control — is optional with the Limited package. A Limited package with VDC costs $3,100, plus the automatic transmission.

Thanks for the info. I ended up getting the regular 2.5i without the limited upgrade b/c they didn't have any Limiteds available, and I got a super deal. The dealership said I can add leather at anytime for around 900 bucks, so I'll do that when the new car smell wears off! I did get custom vinyl cargo liners and the dog guard to minimize the dog mess...
