The $80,000, 503-hp R63 AMG — as well as the less-exotic R500 — have been discontinued for 2008. In fact, there are no more V-8s in the R-Class lineup at all, just two V-6s — one gasoline and one diesel.

Even though the obscenely-powerful R-Class AMG package has been canned, R-Class models for 2008 have standard AMG-like front and rear styling for those who want the looks but not the power … but where’s the fun in that?

Other changes for 2008 include this being the first time you can choose between rear- and all-wheel drive; in previous years, you could only get an R-Class with Mercedes’ 4Matic AWD.
