If you keep up at least minimally on automotive news, you’ve probably heard there are new mileage testing procedures for 2008. And if you haven’t heard, well … hey — there are new mileage testing procedures for 2008!

With the exception of large trucks and vans with gross vehicle weight ratings of more than 8,500 pounds, all 2008-model-year vehicles — including crossovers, cars, trucks and SUVS — will be tested with these new procedures to give more realistic mileage numbers. Just like the previous testing procedures, vehicles with ratings over 8,500 pounds — including heavy duty SUVs, trucks and vans like the Ford Excursion or Dodge Ram 2500 — are exempt from testing.
