Aero is Saab's sportier trim level that sits a notch above base models. The Aero trim typically includes a stiffer, sport-tuned suspension along with a larger wheel/tire package and, on some models, a more powerful engine.

For example: The 9-5 Aero keeps the same 260-hp turbocharged four-cylinder as the base model but adds a sport suspension that lowers the 9-5 by 10 mm. Aero 9-5s cost around $1,000 more than non-Aero 9-5s for 2008.

Aero trim levels are available on all three Saab models, including the 9-3 compact sedan, wagon and convertible; the 9-5 midsize sedan and wagon; and the upcoming 9-7X Aero sport utility vehicle, which will be available this fall.

For most Saabs, Aero also means a higher engine output as well. For the Saab 9-5 in the USA, though, this is not the case as both the base and Aero spec models get the 260hp unit as mentioned.

In the 9-3, though, the Aero model is the only one with the 250hp V6 (which will be 255hp in 2008 and 280hp if the XWD variant is ordered.)

Also, Swade, the upcoming 9-7X Aero will have a 390-hp V-8, up from the current non-Aero 9-7X V-8 that makes 300 hp. And the post does mention Aero-equipped Saabs may also include a more powerful engine.
