We guess that all depends on what you consider a luxury vehicle, as it's hard to pinpoint exactly what makes a luxury car exactly that. Cars.com classifies luxury cars into premium, near-luxury, luxury and ultraluxury vehicles. These categories include vehicles that range from the compact $25,000 Volvo S40 sedan all the way up to a $390,000 Maybach 62.

In this huge spectrum of luxury vehicles, the Environmental Protection Agency classifies the Audi A3 as being rated for the best mileage out of 2007 luxury vehicles, with ratings of 22/29 city/highway mpg when equipped with an automatic transmission.

The A3's mileage listed here is reflective of the EPA's 2008 ratings, which can be applied to a 2007 or previous vehicle, and more accurately reflects real-world driving. Whether or not you're going to get 29 mpg in an A3 is dependant on many variables unique to your driving style and location.
