What's the better compact SUV, Outlander or Santa Fe?

I am looking at the 2007 Mitsubishi Outlander versus the 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. If you were given a choice between these two, which one would you choose?

Mary B.

We’ve covered both of these vehicles extensively. Please read our reviews on both cars at the links below.

If you’ve narrowed your purchase down to these two vehicles, you should definitely test drive both. Every driver will find that things like ride height and seat position fit them differently, and that could completely change your opinion of either vehicle.

In the simplest sense, they’re both fine SUVs. The Outlander will cost less unless you fully load it up with options. The Outlander is a bit sportier to drive, while the Santa Fe’s ride is tuned for comfort. If you want a quiet cruiser, the Santa Fe certainly wins the battle.

It all comes down to what kind of driving experience you’re after.

No contest here. Test drove them both and bought a Santa Fe SE without all the bells and whistles. Very happy with this CUV. One factor did take away from the Mitsubishi and that was the terrible local dealer in my area which is Kerbeck Mitsubishi in Pleasantville, NJ.
They are unsatisfactory in every phase. My wife bought her two prior new cars there because she really liked the vehicles in spite of all the terrible service, dishonest dealings of this awful dealer. Unfortunately there is no other Mitsu outlets close by so...
